The flood building connection:

The building was constructed on the site of the Baldwin Hotel & Theater that was destroyed by fire in 1898, and later purchased by James L. Flood, son of James Clair Flood (1826-1888) the Comstock Lode millionaire

Mystery writer Dashiell Hammett once worked for Samuels writing advertising copy. Hammett used the clock in Samuels ads and referred to it in at least one of his mystery stories.

Christopher "Chris" Alcaide

Played in Bonanza(connection with the flood builiding and Comstock Lode) and he came out of retirement in 1982 to play an unnamed man in a corporate boardroom in the film Hammett, a fictional story of author Dashiell Hammett.[

He was cast in his first, uncredited, screen role as Eddie in the 1950 production of the Tennessee Williams play, The Glass Menagerie.
